Implementing total quality

Article Abstract:

A discussion on total quality (TQ) implementation as related to culture change is presented. Many firms experience problems on TQ implementation because the models used fail to make sense of organizational culture and are difficult to change. Four generic models have been identified as the characterizing methods of implementing TQ within existing cultural organizations, namely: total institution; adaptive/survival; learning organization and transformational/dialectical. It is suggested that there is no best method for cultural change in TQ management and changes in the approach are unavoidable.
