Improving specifications

Article Abstract:

Clear and concise specifications facilitate work and eliminate misunderstandings that may result in costly errors. A specification writer must know the details of the proposed work to avoid inconsistency and redundancy. Specifications should contain a complete but brief explanation of the work scope, clear-cut material classifications and a chronologically arranged description of construction requirements. It should also detail measurement methods and payment schemes. Writers should ensure that they use the proper terms, correct sentence length and accurate and clear word choices.
