Article Abstract:

Materials science and mathematics generally don't mix, but the advent of computer simulation/graphics has resulted in the discovery of novel physical structures through a loose application of differential geometry to periodic minimal surfaces. The validation of these surfaces, especially the gyroid, depends on whether they are able to organize and predict observable phenomena. The gyroid is currently quite popular among researchers studying block copolymers though the method of equating it to zero-set/minimal surfaces is just a matter of convenience.

His message is being thwarted by corporate giants in the telecommunications industry that have convinced a few state legislatures against providing telecommunications services to their residents. These legislatures have yielded to lobbying pressures and have put the interest of corporations ahead of the interest of the general public.
