Inbred parasites may spur resistance

Article Abstract:

Karen Day's studies in New Guineau found that a lower malaria transmission rate compared to a Tanzanian study led to a higher incidence of P falciparum parasite inbreeding and increased inheritance of resistance to antibiotics. Efforts to decrease malaria transmission may thus increase drug resistance.

'No-take' zones spark fisheries debate

Article Abstract:

Ecologists and fisheries scientists are hoping that the establishment of the first US no-fishing zone will set a trend in marine biodiversity preservation. However, it is not yet proved that the Western Sambos Ecological Reserve off the Florida Keys will replenish fish stocks.

Green education under fire

Article Abstract:

Conservative groups are attacking environmental education in US schools, maintaining it is one-sided and is giving children incomplete information about ecological dangers. Supporters counter that these attacks are excessive.
