Inconstant constants

Article Abstract:

The physical constants that define the way in which the nature works might have changed over billions of years with profound effects on the state of the universe. Chemical elements in the distant past absorbed light differently than the same elements do today and their difference can be explained by change in one of the constants, known as the fine-structure constant, which could be a sign that space has extra dimensions.

Hole in the middle

Article Abstract:

The possibility of a mid-size black hole, with a luminosity implied mass of 100 to 10,000 suns, is being explored by scientists. This new class of black hole may be a bridge between black holes with the mass of a star that are formed upon the implosion of a dying star and black holes with a mass of a billion or so stars with unknown origins.

Inconstant constants

Article Abstract:

Researchers at the University of New South Wales have discovered that the astronomical constants governing the universe billions of years ago were not equal to those used nowadays. It was shown that the quasar constants for older gas clouds were 100,000 times smaller than that of today.
