How T cells count

Article Abstract:

Immunologist Antonella Viola has discovered that T cells activate when a certain quantity of T cell receptors (TCRs) are engaged by a foreign peptide major histocompatibility complex (MHC). The low affinity of TCR interactions with ligands is essential to the 'counting' mechanism.

T Cells and Dendritic Cells Get Intimate

Article Abstract:

Dendritic cells and T cells must interact to activate the body's immune response against pathogens. When the dendritic cells are immature they cannot activate the T cells, but when they mature the dendritic cells move to lymphoid organs and are then able to activate the T cells.
