Kinetics and products of the gas-phasereactions of 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one and trans-cinnamaldehyde with OH and NO3 radicals and O3 at 296 plus or minus 2 K

Article Abstract:

The photolysis and gas-phase reactions of 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one and trans-cinnamaldehyde with OH radicals, NO3 radicals and O3 were examined at 296 plus or minus 2 K and atmospheric pressure of air. The formation of acetone and a second compound was observed in the reaction of 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one with OH radicals and O3. Meanwhile, benzaldehyde, together with small amounts of cis-cinnamaldehyde formed from the photolysis of trans-cinnamaldehyde, was observed to have been formed in the reaction of trans-cinnamaldehyde with OH radicals.

Oxidation of metal-EDTA complexes by TiO2 photocatalysis

Article Abstract:

Results reveal that aqueous-phase oxidation of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and its several metal complexes can be achieved through TiO2 photocatalysis. Different photocatalytic oxidation rates were reported for the different metal-EDTA complexes under equivalent conditions of pH = 4 + or - 0.1 in an aerobic system. Photocatalytic EDTA oxidation bear resemblance to electrochemical oxidations of EDTA as evidenced by the rates of total organic carbon removal and formaldehyde generation during EDTA oxidation.

Rate constants for the gas-phase reactions of the OH radical with selected carbamates and lactates

Article Abstract:

A relative rate method is applied in measuring rate constants for the gas-phase reactions of four volatile carbamates and for the two lactates with the OH radical. The error limits include the estimated overall uncertainties in the rate constants for the reference compounds. A measurement of rate constants for the reactions of the carbamates with NO3 radicals and O3 to determine the dominant atmospheric loss process for these carbamates.
