Degradation of metal-nitrilotriacetate complexes by nitrilotriacetate monooxygenase

Article Abstract:

Aqueous speciation modeling can be applied in predicting the rate of nitrilotriacetate (NTA) degradation by NTA monooxygenase for complex systems containing multiple species. This was gleaned from an investigation of the impact of aqueous speciation of NTA on enzymatic degradation. Results indicate that the rate of transport into the cell limits the biodegradation of various metal-NTA complexes and that NTA-Mo may be useful for degradaing NTA-metal complexes which are resistant to degradation by whole cells.

Biodegradation of nickel-citrate and modulation of nickel toxicity by iron

Article Abstract:

The biodegradation of 1:1 nickel: citric acid by Pseudomonas fluorescens was investigated. The results showed that degradation of the complex was incomplete, in large part due to the toxic characteristics of the Ni released by the biodegradation process. Coprecipitation of Ni by iron ameliorated Ni toxicity, thus allowing the complete degradation of the nickel-citrate complex.
