Warm, Warm on the Range

Article Abstract:

Scientists have found that the global climate has increased about one degree Celsius in the past century. Some predict that increasing industrialization may cause further warming which will have severe environmental effects. Distribution of flora may alter significantly. It is thought that boreal forests could begin to grow in tundra areas, which could create environmental havoc.

Evolution and climate variability

Article Abstract:

Climactic variation over time is likely to have had major evolutionary consequences for hominids. Such changes may have favored gene combinations and behaviors that enabled individuals to adapt to changing conditions. This 'variability selection' idea conflicts with that of long-term directional selection.
