Late Permian extinctions

Article Abstract:

Nutrient concentration fluctuations were likely to have played a key role in mass extinctions and in the selection of marine invertebrate taxa that were resistant to extinction. Possible causal mechanisms of nutrient concentration fluctuations in mass extinction are examined.

Animal origins

Article Abstract:

Research on the nucleotide sequences of 7 genes from 16 living phyla indicate that the major phyla originated and diversified much earlier than previously believed. The new research indicates animals appeared between 1000 and 1200 million years ago (Ma) rather than 565 (Ma).
