Lead isotopes in tree rings: chronology of pollution in Bayou Trepagnier, Louisiana

Article Abstract:

Testing of tree rings for lead isotopes in contaminated and non-contaminated areas of Bayou Trepagnier suggest that bioavailability of lead in the environment depends on its chemical speciation. Seven trees were tested and plots reveal a linear correlation between lead isotopes suggesting mixing between two sources of lead. The nature of the contaminant lead is relatively homogenous isotopically and suggest that uptake is dominated by local-scale root processes.

An automated system for the measurement of nitrogen oxides and ozone concentrations from a passenger aircraft: instrumentation and first results of the NOXAR project

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of the NOXAR system of collecting NO, NO2 and ozone gases reveals that the system performed generally well with the NO and ozone measurements stable and reliable during the sampling period. The measurements also represent a 10-fold increase in the worldwide coverage of NOx emission measurements in the tropopause region. The system shows promise despite problems in NO2 measurements.
