Ligand effects on dioxygen activation by copper and nickel complexes: reactivity and intermediates

Article Abstract:

The synthesis of copper and nickel complexes with different active-oxygen species [M.sub.n]-[O.sub.2] where n is equivalent to 1 or 2, like trans-(mu-1,2-peroxo)[Cu.sup.11.sub.2], bis(mu-oxo)[M.sup.111.sub.2], bis(mu-superoxo)[Ni.sup.11.sub.2], and ligand-based alkylperoxo-[M.sup.11.sub.n], by a range of tetradentate tripodal ligands (TMPA analogues) comprising of sterically demanding 6-methyl substituent(s) on the pyridyl group(s) where TMPA represents tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine is described.

Heme-copper/dioxygen adduct formation, properties, and reactivity

Article Abstract:

The researches on the synthetic heme/copper/ [O.sub.2] chemistry, significant to the mechanism of action of heme-copper oxidases and to dioxygen activation chemistry are reviewed. The technique for the generation of [O.sub.2] adducts, which are high-spin heme-peroxo-Cu complexes are discussed with an exhaustive structural/electronic characterization of one example.

Mild and neutral deprotections catalyzed by cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate

Article Abstract:

A novel, chemoselective, and catalytic deprotection methodology is developed under mild and neutral conditions. Cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) has displayed exquisite chemoselectivity as a Lewis acid leading to a very high tolerance of otherwise acid-labile functionalities.
