Managing for profit

Article Abstract:

Effective management skills are necessary complements to the creative talents of engineers and architects. Project organization and management are considered as critical requirements by their clients. Five steps to improve leadership amd management skills are presented. This involves the acquisition of the proper workers, development of a corprorate culture, involving project managers into financial matters, addressing the information needs of the company and the integration of its business system with its financial system.

Marketing is everyone's job

Smaller engineering firms can improve their competitiveness with larger companies by using marketing techniques. These include having a positive attitude, hiring motivated staff, focusing on clients through research, networking to develop new business, and making professional presentations.
