Mindstorms to Mars

Article Abstract:

Lego's Mindstorms robotic kit features a programmable Lego brick, the RCX, which can handle up to 1,500 simultaneous commands. Some UK universities have used Mindstorms to introduce the concept of robotic programming. Reading university researchers developed the Elma walking robot, and the node concept is now used in the environmental control of intelligent buildings. At the University of Edinburgh autonomous robots have been built since the early 1990s, with the aim of understanding animal sensory motor behaviour.

Test match

Article Abstract:

Radio communications is a growth sector of the electronics industry and companies like Racal Instruments are continually seeking graduate engineers, preferably with several years of industrial experience. The company, which makes automatic test and measurements instruments, uses several recruiting methods, including advertising, head-hunting agencies and the Internet. Global demand for electronics skills means there is a significant shortage of qualified recruits, particularly in radio communications.
