Money trouble

Article Abstract:

The draft 'Method for achieving good payment performance in commercial transactions' provides techniques to improve managerial efficiency in small and medium enterprises suffering from late or no payment problems. The emphasis has been put on both the buyers and the sellers to smoothen payment processes. The annual European Business Survey report suggests that though the rate of payments since 1992 has increased, it has declined in 1996. The average payment duration in the UK is 50 days, which is better than that in Europe.

Local potential

Article Abstract:

A survey shows that Training and Enterprise Councils (TECs) established in England and Wales to promote cooperation between firms have experienced little success. Although 90% of TECs have set up networks in their area, they each have only about 100 firms participating in cooperation initiatives. The main obstables to cooperation include the lack of awareness of firms and their fear that cooperation would undermine their competitive advantage.
