National campaign on horizon for Nature Network

Article Abstract:

A Nature Network (a network of naturalists across Canada) will be formed to offer a united front on environmental issues. Representatives from all 12 provinces have listed their priorities, from which a national priorities list will be drawn up. Issues of habitat protection and the impact of all-terrain vehicles on natural areas are likely to be at the top of the list.

How green was my budget?

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Nature Federation is pleased that Prime Minister Jean Chretien has requested $74 million over two years to expand Canada's national park system. Chretien has promised to create 10 new national parks and five marine conservation areas. The Green Budget Coalition says that the federal budget commits $3 billion to environmental protection.

Article Abstract:

Volunteers are helping to preserve water quality in rivers and along coastlines in Canada. A project begun in March of 2002 by the Canadian Nature Federation and Environment Canada has tried to identify community-level activities that monitor environmental problems and that try to present solutions.
