New regulations mandate dam inspections in Massachusetts

Article Abstract:

The new regulations by Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation mandate dam inspections of private dams by qualified engineers through the DCR's Office of Dam Safety. The private owners can hire registered professional engineers as inspectors. The new regulation increases the authority of state over private dam owners.

Link established between pavement deicers and runway cracking

Article Abstract:

The research conducted on the deterioration of runways revealed that the alkali-silica reaction (ASR) caused by pavement deicers and concrete mix used in pavements is the main reason for this damage. The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is trying to find alternate ways to reduce the risk.
