Owl ecology in the Cape Horn Archipelago

Article Abstract:

The project aims to assess the distribution, abundance, and habitat needs of the rufous-legged owl species, and its interplay with other forest with other forest animals, before its habitat is irrevocably altered. Dr. Francisca Massardo, Richardo Rozzi, Leonard Yannielli and his project team use tapped owl calls to survey owl populations, recording additional environmental data along the way.

South African Penguins

Article Abstract:

The project is undertaken to protect penguins population in South Africa from oil spills between Robben and Dassen Islands. The project team combines the use of their new tag design with modern tracking devices to document the distribution of penguins at sea and identify areas where they are at risk from oil spills and competition with commercial fisheries in South Africa.

Puerto Rico's smooth-billed ani

Article Abstract:

The project aims to explore ani-nesting behavior to shed light on the evolution and maintenance of communal breeding. Gregory Schmaltz, Dr. Jim Quinn and is project team will conduct behavioral observations of marked nests using binoculars, noting copulations and dominance interactions, and use radiotelemetry to track habitat use by anis.
