Panel criticises NASA science

Article Abstract:

The NRC panel of 11 academic researchers and industry managers made recommendations that closely corresponded with those suggested by NASA Administrator Daniel Golden. Sen Barbara Mikulski called for the review after Goldin removed NASA science program chief Lennard Fisk in 1992.

Animal activists target NASA mission

Article Abstract:

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is protesting an international research effort involving the use of rhesus monkeys in space. As a result, Congress is questioning the study. NASA, Russian, and French scientists plan to use the monkeys in a weightlessness study.

Faster, cheaper strategy on trial

Article Abstract:

The Lewis and Clark satellites have not lived up to their purpose, which was to help make space exploration 'faster, cheaper and better.' Lewis self-destructed in summer 1997 and Clark is behind schedule and over budget.
