Panel weighs a law against cloning

The National Bioethics Advisory Commission is recommending an indefinite extension of the ban on the use of federal funds for human cloning research. The independent panel is undecided on whether to support the criminalization of the use of private funds for human cloning.

Panel faults research consent process

The presidential panel recommended that local review boards examine more carefully patient consent forms and consider, in addition to safety and ethical issues, the scientific justification for research involving human experimentation.

Clinton backs broad genetic safeguards

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton asked Congress to pass a law making it illegal for health insurance providers to deny coverage to a healthy person based on genetic information. Clinton also wants measures to protect the privacy of genetic data.
