Stirring

Article Abstract:

Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez, is involved in a territorial dispute with Guyana over land west of the river Essequibo, which is rich in minerals. This dispute was supposed to have been settled in the 19th century by a verdict that was not accepted by Venezuela. Chavez has also angered the Colombian government by planning to hold talks with rebels from a guerillas groups called FARC. Venezuelans are affected by recession and may not be distracted by Chavez's nationalism.
