Pretesting tumors: long derided, test-tube screening for cancer-drug sensitivity slowly gains acceptance

Article Abstract:

The method of testing cancer drugs for effectiveness in a test tube is slowly being accepted by doctors. The technique had suffered a setback in the 1970s when studies revealed many difficulties. However, improvements have been made which made it practical and acceptable.

Issues are presented concerning the use of magnetic resonance imaging to view the glowing effect which occurs when a particular gene in the DNA of frogs is activated. The use of this discovery for the treatment of tumors is discussed.
