Quantum sculpting: feedback enables researchers to control an atom's wave function

Article Abstract:

Physicist Philip H. Bucksbaum and his colleagues at the University of Michigan have combined a feedback system with other methods to manipulate the wave functions of quantum particles. The secret to controlling the shape of the wave functions lies in placing the so-called Rydberg states in superposition.

A qubit chip

Article Abstract:

Research done by Yasunobu Nakamura and his associates at the NEC Fundamental Research Laboratories prove quantum computers are possible. Nakamura built a nanometer-scale of such a device on a semiconductor chip. It has the properties of a quantum dot and quantum purity of superconductors.

The coolest gas in the universe: Bose-Einstein condensates are one of the hottest areas in experimental physics

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the Bose-Einstein condensates reveals much about quantum physics. Results of experiments using the condensates for atom lasers, atom interaction and understanding superfluidity are described.
