Article Abstract:

An appellate court ordered the Univ of Arizona to conduct an environmental impact study to build the Large Binocular Telescope on Arizona's Mount Graham. The school's current site was exempt, but it chose a new site at the government's request, to be sensitive to the endangered red squirrel.

Assessment flaws seen in pending academy report

Article Abstract:

The report, which will rank graduate departments by the quality of their faculty, is drawing criticism from the scientific community. The report will be based on research that omits industry ratings of the academic departments and fails to assess the success of graduates in the workplace.

A Senate victory would turn the tide after House defeat

Article Abstract:

Funding for the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) could be restored. The House Aug 1993 vote to delete $620 million for the SSC may have been the result of larger budgetary concerns. The Senate is unlikely to vote to kill the project.
