Rolling along

Article Abstract:

It is possible to achieve a significant reduction in machining and tooling costs by using hot rolled special sections. It is not always necessary to make a large quantity of special section in order to achieve economies of scale. There are three companies within Glynwed Metals Processing, for example, that produce a wide range of special sections. Most are supplied to bright drawers as close as possible to the final shape needs of their own customers. However, Glynwed also supplies directly to end users.

Rolling element linear guidance systems

Article Abstract:

The design of rolling element linear guidance systems involve the measurement of the bearing characteristics to ensure that the bearings meet the requirements for running accuracy and load carrying capacity. The two types of basic load ratings are the basic static load rating and the basic dynamic load rating. Measurement of these ratings should be based on the rolling bearing manufacturer's specifications. Several calculation methods are presented.

Linear guide uses magneto-resistive effect

Article Abstract:

Schneeberger's new intelligent monorail system uses the magneto-resistive effect for position measurement. It is based on a high-precision roller bearing linear guide and combines guiding and incremental path encoding with load bearing. The system is accurate to five micrometers; is immune to oil vapor deposits, moisture, and emulsion; saves space; and automatically takes the correct position. It replaces a conventional optical system.
