Scientific Panel Clears Breast Implants

Article Abstract:

A panel appointed by federal Judge Sam J. Pointer Jr. to implement the 1993 Supreme Court decision in Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, found strongly against the plaintiffs' position that breast implants cause systemic diseases such as lupus and autoimmune disorders. More than 2000 research studies were examined, and 40 of the most important forwarded to the panel, which also heard expert witnesses.

The Exxon Valdez's Scientific Gold Rush

Article Abstract:

The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council funded $110 million in research on the ecological harm done by the Exxon Valdez spill. Scientists have gathered valuable data on causes of species decline in the Gulf of Alaska. However, funding a research program because of a catastrophe has become a controversial issue.

A Trematode Parasite Causes Some Frog Deformities

Article Abstract:

Research has revealed that a trematode, a parasitic flatworm, caused infections in frogs which resulted in missing limbs, extra legs and other abnormalities. The findings indicate that this occurrence can possibly happen anywhere in the world. The details of this discovery are discussed.
