Seismically safe, spectator-friendly

Article Abstract:

The Anaheim Arena in California combines seismic stability, functionality and cost-effectiveness in its design. The structural engineers considered safety, financial, aesthetic and user requirements to design a structure that would also serve as a recreation center complete with amenities. Construction materials were chosen for their easy installation, economic viability and properties which would satisfy the structural requirements of the arena.

Article Abstract:

Engineers who designed Manhattan skyscraper at 731 Lexington Avenue with offices in the lower floors and residences in the upper had to employ several unusual methods to accommodate client needs. The engineers relocated columns, transferred loads through outrigger systems and also added a uniquely designed tuned-mass damper to counteract wind motions.

Article Abstract:

The project undertaken to build a new ballpark at the site to preserve and reuse the structure is presented. A seismic upgrade for the unreinforced masonry structure were designed, the engineers also developed a scheme that would enable fans to view games from various levels of the warehouse, including its roof.
