Senate passes tsunami bill, House version awaits action

Article Abstract:

The details of the two legislative bills, relating to the tsunami that struck southern Asia in December 2004, are presented. While the Tsunami Preparedness Act (S. 50) had been passed by full Senate, the Tsunami Warning and Education Act of 2005 was approved by the House Committee on Science, on May 4. The purpose is to expand government efforts to detect tsunamis and make required preparations.

Senate bill proposes National Infrastructure Commission

Article Abstract:

The United States' Senate is going to establish the National Commission on the Infrastructure of United States, under the National Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2006 (S. 2388). The commission would study all matters relating to the state of the infrastructure of the United States and would also develop recommendations for the improvement of infrastructure.
