Shielding space travelers

Article Abstract:

The tiniest, fast-moving elementary particles known as cosmic rays pose irreducible risks, severe hurdles to human spaceflight to Mars and beyond. Cosmic rays might lead to cancers, cataracts and brain damage and biomedical researchers are yet to determine how much long-term exposure to cosmic rays a person can tolerate and whether medicines could stimulate the body's natural repair mechanisms.

The theory formerly known as strings

Article Abstract:

Contradicting rules applied in quantum physics and gravity may be made coherent through the principles of the so-called M-theory. The theory bases its assumption on the concept of strings, one-dimensional objects believed to represent the vibratory motion of elementary particles.

Atoms of space and time

Article Abstract:

The theory of loop quantum gravity arises from the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics and general relativity. This theory is very helpful for the calculation of structure of space especially the small volume discrete lumps.
