Steady state

Article Abstract:

Condition monitoring is essential in evaluating the performance of maintenance within a manufacturing operation. Proper implementation of a condition monitoring program would improve equipment reliability and provide significant cost benefits to the operator. Since condition monitoring cannot be justified for all pieces of plant equipment, the technical and commercial viability of each equipment need to be assessed. The operational costs of a condition monitoring program must be considered against the potential cost savings and the costs of alternative maintenance strategies.

Maintaining standards

Article Abstract:

Equipment maintenance is vital to safety and to profitable operation. Condition monitoring is a helpful tool for maintenance planning. First, possible failures and their effects on safety should be analyzed. The failure point and the activities it affects indirectly should both be considered. When safety is not at risk, the point is to get the most availability for the least cost. A baseline should be established for equipment when it is new or recently overhauled.
