String Theorists Find a Rosetta Stone

Article Abstract:

Gedanken black holes are hypothetical objects that have taken a leading role in physicists' attempts to create a 'theory of everything'. The latest such theory, string theory, exists in up to 11 dimensions and provides no predictions that can be tested by experiment. However, string theory is gaining popularity and universities are competing to hire string theorists.

Thermal energy from the sea seeing renewed interest

Article Abstract:

The 250-kW pilot plant for ocean thermal energy conversion at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority is currently pumping seawater for desalinization and aquaculture activities, but is not currently producing electricity. The article details the technology and its possibilities.

Developments in agriculture now include ways of irrigating crops with seawater. There are a number of crops that are resistant to saltwater and these crops may be used as forage for animals among other things. Developments include equipment, techniques and plants.
