Fifteen years of Raman spectroscopy of engineered heme containing peroxidases: What have we learned?

Article Abstract:

The contribution to the understanding of heme peroxidases provided by electronic and resonance Raman spectroscopies in conjunction with site-directed mutagenesis is examined. The results obtained over 15 years with several heme peroxidases and selected mutants have provided important insights into the influence exerted by the protein in the vicinity of the active site via key amino acids on the functionality and stability of the enzymes.

Surfact-enhanced Raman scattering in local optical fields of silver and gold nanoaggregates - form single-molecule Raman spectroscopy to ultrasensitive probing in live cells

Article Abstract:

The surface-enhanced Raman scattering is discussed at extremely high enhancement levels that can occur for molecules attached to silver and gold nanoclusters. Strongly enhanced and highly confined local optical fields enable surface-enhanced Stokes and anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy of single molecules even under nonresonant excitation conditions as well as extremely large effective cross section in two-photon excited Raman spectroscopy.

The chromophore structural changes during the photocycle of phytochrome: A combined resonance Raman and quantum chemical approach

Article Abstract:

Resonance Raman spectroscopy is combined with quantum chemical calculations to determine the chromophore structure in various states of phytochrome. A molecular model is derived for the photoinduced reaction cycle.
