Uptake and biotransformation of trichloroethylene by hybrid poplars

Article Abstract:

Tests were conducted on poplars to verify their ability to degrade trichloroethylene, utilizing axenic cell cultures of poplar cells to ascertain that the ability is not brought about by rhizosphere organisms. The poplar cell cultures produced radiolabeled carbon dioxide and insoluble residue in the presence of radiolabeled trichloroethylene. The research validates the use of poplars in bioremediation strategies.
