TQM at Xerox: lessons worth duplicating

Article Abstract:

The total quality management (TQM) process undertaken by Xerox Corp played a vital role in making the company a leader in the manufacture of copying machines. The TQM process undertaken by Xerox takes into consideration three strategic aspects, namely customer focus, total involvement and process improvement. From its initial implementation during the early part of 1970s, the company's TQM process has transformed from a special emphasis to a fundamental business principle.

Top management commitment played a vital role in the implementation of total quality management (TQM) concepts in the Accounting Department and the Business Research Centre (BRC) of the School of Business at Cameron University. Commitment from the university's top management emphasized the significance of TQM to the rest of the organization. It also resulted to the accessibility of resources that are vital to the successful implementation of TQM.

Requirements for successful implementation of total quality management

Article Abstract:

Successful implementation of total quality management (TQM) entails modification of organizational culture. Changes in organizational culture, such as focus, attitudes and commitment, are necessary since TQM principles and practices often represent a dramatic shift from traditional manufacturing. Implementation to TQM also calls for a sustained commitment and considerable investment in human resource development.
