Technology assessment in the Danish socio-political context

Article Abstract:

The practice of technology assessment in Denmark is informed by social experiments, public debate, and dialogue between stakeholders. Although it was opposed by industry at the start, it is currently 'institutionalized in the political system, in trade unions and in research' with the support of the government's Council of Technology and Board of Technology. Moreover, the discipline's practitioners have turned their attention to shaping technology from the consequences of technology.

Policy analysis at the US Office of Technology Assessment

Article Abstract:

The US Congress' Office of Technology Assessment carried out an in-house assessment on the quality of its policy analysis reports. The internal project revealed that OTA does a good job of providing 'technically strong, reliable' and balanced reports to congressional staff. Although the reader-friendliness and timeliness of its reports may vary, its weaknesses generally lie in stakeholder analysis, international context comparisons and institutional analysis.
