The industrial policies of the USA and Japan

Article Abstract:

Data showing the impact of industrial policies in the economic condition of the US and Japan revealed a need for governments to leave most of the work in pursuing technological innovation in the hands of the private sector. In the US, it was shown that government measures aimed at protecting the interest of its industries played a small role in achieving significant breakthroughs in sport utility vehicles and microprocessors, among other products. In Japan, the importance of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry begins to diminish as various economic shifts take place, such as the growing importance of microprocessors in computers.
