The many faces of the WAS protein

Article Abstract:

Recent research has revealed that WASp, the protein coded by the gene responsible for Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, is a versatile molecule that connects the cytoskeleton and cellular signal transduction pathways. Revelations since the gene was cloned in 1994 are described.

Researchers get their first look at the nucleosome

Article Abstract:

The structure of the nucleosome core particle has been resolved with the aid of high energy x-ray crystallography. The new structure shows the exact interaction of DNA with histone proteins during such important events as transcription, replication and repair.

Src structure crystallizes 20 years of oncogene research

Article Abstract:

The first descriptions of the crystal structure of the Src protein are providing important insights into how the gene is regulated. The discovery will aid in the design of drugs to prevent and treat cancer.
