The politics of science

Article Abstract:

Government spending cuts in science and technology are inevitable, as they are in all segments of the budget. Scientists should not lament the federal R&D levels of past years, but appreciate the relative importance science has in the national agenda and actively campaign to keep it high.

The activist scientist

Article Abstract:

Scientists must overcome their disaffection and lack of knowledge concerning politics and become more active in influencing science policy in an age of declining federal funding. They should establish relationships with politicians and educate the public about the importance of science.

Scientifically illiterate vs. politically clueless

Article Abstract:

Scientists must increase their political involvement to ensure continued funding for important research projects. Scientists must be trained to assume leadership positions in areas that will affect the future of science.
