The value of voluntarism

Article Abstract:

Christine Durant, went to Malawi in 2003 on a two year volunteer stint with Uniterra, an international cooperation program that provides volunteer opportunities to more than 200 people every year. Her task was to help the Wildlife Environmental Society of Malawi build closer ties to other organizations and governmental departments, arrange more sustainable funding, and work in the community to generate greater awareness of environmental concerns.

Battling the beetle: war is being waged in the woods

Article Abstract:

Scientists, government and landowners fight to keep exotic insects from harming Canada's forests. More than 85,000 ash trees larger than one centimetre in diameter were felled and chipped throughout the kilometre-wide beetle barrier.

Spot the ladybug; join in the Canadian Nature Federation's EPIC lady beetle survey

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Nature Federation has launched a survey designed to gather information on lady beetles and their preferred habitats in Canada. The results of the survey will be used to develop a database on these beneficial insects.
