The water-wise garden: planting with drought-resistant native species can help conserve water and protect the environment

Article Abstract:

Public utilities movements and environmentalists, with the assistance of the Water Commission of Denver, CO, are promoting xeriscaping. Xeriscaping means landscaping using plants that are drought-resistant such as fairy bells and wild geraniums, ornamental grasses, shrubs and trees that are under 40 ft.

Retaining water

Article Abstract:

Residents at Winnipeg have significantly benefitted from the construction of stormwater retention ponds. These manmade water bodies have not only served as an effective means of controlling rainwater runoff but have provided natural habitats for various animals as well.
