The winds of change: digital technologies, trading information and managing intellectual property rights

Article Abstract:

Copyright protection and intellectual property rights (IPR) management are two issues that continue to affect the international market of digital technologies. With regards to less developed countries, their effort towards digitization is being threatened by the implementation of policies that restrict copyright protection and enforcement. One policy that can be considered that will most likely result to enhancement of copyright management in an electronic environment is through promotion of public awareness involving the significance of intellectual property on electronic commerce.

Inventive behavior and patent protection

Article Abstract:

A study has been conducted to investigate the industrial effects of inventive activity relative to a specific external structure, as in the case of the US patent system. It is believed that under the first-to-file system, patent protection does not begin until filing. However, under a first-to-invent system, protection begins upon conception. Survey results indicated that it is important to consider the nature of the patenting environment in conducting research and filing the eventual patent application.
