Transferring technology

Article Abstract:

The Northern Ireland Technology Centre is dedicated to technology transfer and it provides advanced technical services for both industry and training. It is funded mostly through income from its industrial services which aim to improve manufacturing systems, test materials quality and suitability and develop new machinery and processes. It is also involved in managing the Advisory Service to Industry (ASI), which provides technical experts and management consultants to help solve manufacturing problems and assist in obtaining quality assurance certification.

The automotive technology event: Autotech '95

Article Abstract:

Autotech '95 at Birmingham, England, Nov 7 to 9, 1995, consisted of a conference and an exhibition to display the latest developments in automotive technology. The topics for the papers presented at the conference were Automotive Electronics, Manufacturing, Powertrain, Refinement and Safety. Companies such as British Steel, Dynacast, Millbrook and CP Engineering took part in the exhibition. The main attraction was a Racecar Engineering Pavillion.

Toolmakers wishing to improve their competitiveness are looking to high speed machining (HSM) as a serious option. HSM technology allows direct machining of hardened steel and significantly reduces the lead time for producing complex tooling, despite being more expensive than conventional machining.
