Turtle tragedy: demand in Asia may be wiping out turtle populations worldwide

Herpetologists and wildlife conservationists have expressed grave concerns about the declining turtle populations worldwide due to the alarming growth of turtle exports. This burgeoning market for turtles is most evident in Asian countries, notably China, where the animals are prized for their purported health benefits.

When blade meets bat: unexpected bat kills threaten future wind farms

Article Abstract:

During the fall migration period at least 400 bats died in West Virginia by colliding with the wind turbines at the Wind Energy Center. Such unfortunate mishaps threaten to delay or halt construction of some additional several hundred wind turbines planned for the tristate region.

Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 meets Jupiter

Article Abstract:

Fragments of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 collided with Jupiter in Jul. 1994, barely two months after the comet was discovered. The collisions were among the most spectacular astronomical phenomena ever to have been observed by astronomers across the globe.
