Uncovering new clues to cancer risk

Article Abstract:

Molecular epidemiology combines conventional epidemiology with molecular techniques to assess a person's exposure to carcinogens and subsequent development of cancer. Biological markers identify the genetic damage caused by exposure to carcinogens, thus providing more information on how cancer develops.

Cancer cell invasion and metastasis

Article Abstract:

Research by scientists at the National Cancer Institute provides insight as to how cancer cells spread. Three steps form the process of metastasis, and some enzymes and cell products have halted the spread of cancer cells. Further research may provide help to patients.

Sunlight and skin cancer

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that the damage that leads to nonmelanoma skin cancer often begins with sun-light induced mutations that occur early in life. The process of determining the p53 gene's role in nonmelanoma skin cancer is discussed.
