Harold Varmus answered questions from Congress for three hours, refuting charges that NIH intentionally overlooked researcher Mark Hughes's embryo DNA research on the NIH campus. Hughes's lawyers claimed that Varmus's administration never stated that his genetic diagnosis work was prohibited.
