Wetlands reform bill is all wet, say scientists

Article Abstract:

The House is debating a bill that would open 60%-80% of the nation's wetlands for development. A National Research Council report on the ecological definition of wetlands claims the House bill's designation of protected wetlands is arbitrary and ignore decades of research.

IOM weighs in on microbial threat

An IOM report warns of the dangers of a complacent attitude about the threat of emerging infectious diseases. The report calls on the Centers for Disease Control to improve its surveillance of new diseases and resistant pathogens.

NIH adds an extra layer of review for sensitive grants
