Worming Secrets From the C. elegans Genome

Article Abstract:

An eight year effort to sequence an animal genome has been completed. The animal used in the research was a tiny worm known as Caenorhabdtis elegans whose complete sequence of 97 million bases in the genome had been sequenced. This is an important step towards the sequencing the genomes of humans, who have around 3 billion bases, as funding for more research will be easier to come by.

Sequencers Endorse Plan for a Draft in 1 Year

Article Abstract:

Research and planning being considered by scientists dealing with drafting of the human genome is discussed. The plans to sequence the entire genome and patent the some genes are the goals for the researchers at U.S. National Human Genome Research Institute. The international efforts being put into this project are noted.

Chlamydia: Old Ideas Crushed, New Mysteries Bared

Article Abstract:

Chlamydia trachomatis genome sequencing offers insights on possible cures for trachoma, pneumonia, as well as chlamydia. However, the sequence raises many more questions than it answers at present; consequences for the study of intracellular parasitic bacteria are analyzed.
