Acetaminophen and warfarin: undesirable synergy

Article Abstract:

Patients who must take the anticoagulant drug warfarin as well as the painkiller acetaminophen should be carefully monitored. Acetaminophen appears to cause excessive anticoagulation when given in conjunction with warfarin. This could increase the risk of hemorrhage, which could be fatal. The interaction of these two drugs has been known since 1968 but many physicians may be unaware of it. Both drugs are metabolized by cytochrome P-450 and acetaminophen may block the metabolism of warfarin. If possible, patients should avoid acetaminophen when taking warfarin.

A questionnaire to evaluate disability in osteoporotic patients with vertebral compression fractures

Article Abstract:

Research on the validity of the Osteoporosis Functional Disability Questionnaire (OFDQ), which considers social activities, pain indices, depression, faith in therapy and functional capacity while evaluating disability in osteoporotic patients, indicates OFDQ to be a valuable tool for studying these patients with vertebral compression fractures. Test-retest and internal consistency techniques help assess the reliability of OFDQ, which also considers the influence of aerobic exercise on the nature of disability.
