Antecedents and contexts of generativity motivation at midlife

Article Abstract:

The generativity motivation during midlife is associated with a combination of adolescent scores of achievement, alliance, and power motivation. It is also affected by generative wishes and Q-sort generativity. The Thematic Apperception Test predicts that working women scoring high on generativity find pleasure through their work. Generative women that are not working experience pleasure through parenting. A high generativity motivation in women is also associated with their past and present political involvements.
