Involuntary disenrollment from a Medicare managed care plan at an academic medical center: effect on patients

Article Abstract:

Disenrollment not of their choice from a Medicare managed care plan at an academic medical center has been found to arouse significant concerns for the patients, based on finding from a cross-sectional telephone questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered to patients of two outpatient clinics and involved 450 enrollees recently notified of termination.

Antibiotic treatment of acute respiratory tract infections in the elderly: effect of a multidimensional educational intervention

Article Abstract:

A study conducted to measure and improve antibiotic use for acute respiratory tract infections (ARIs) in the elderly, is presented. The results suggest that quality improvement efforts are needed to optimize antibiotic use in the elderly.

Office evaluation and treatment of elderly patients with acute bronchitis

Article Abstract:

The office evaluation of seniors with uncomplicated acute bronchitis and the association between elements of the clinical evaluation and antibiotic prescribing decisions are determined. Antibiotics were prescribed for 83 percent of senior patients with acute bronchitis regardless of patient age, presentation of acute illness and underlying chronic diseases.
